Several photo vault apps let you create and use a local vault without a developer account. You can still need an Apple Account for purchases or iCloud, and a recovery email, key phrase or separate password can affect how you regain access.
Compare those dependencies by task rather than treating “no account” as one blanket privacy claim. The options below document local use without signup; their recovery and optional cloud features work differently.
“No account” below means no developer identity account for the documented local vault. Purchases, cloud services and recovery can introduce other credentials.

Not needed for local use

Encamera
Photo & video vault
Local or personal-iCloud albums without an app account.
On-device files are documented as accessible offline.
Photos, videos, Live Photos and document storage advertised.
Storage is chosen per album: on the device or in your own iCloud account. General document storage is advertised, but supported formats and preview behavior should be checked.
Backup and recovery
Your own iCloud; local copies matter offline. Key phrase; optional key backup via iCloud Keychain. A phrase does not replace missing photo files.
Check before you choose
iCloud albums need a local copy for offline access. Its privacy policy describes usage analytics and purchase-data services.
The on-device vault can be used without an account. Cloud Vault adds paid backup and sync. General document support was not established in the reviewed sources.
Backup and recovery
Optional premium Cloud Vault; an account is required. Optional recovery email for the app/album password. Cloud Vault has a separate password that the developer cannot recover.
Check before you choose
Cloud Vault needs an account and a separate password. Deleted local files need an existing usable backup for recovery.
The developer documents local storage without an identity account, plus photos, videos and general files. Backup uses iCloud storage; backup and multi-device sync are separate features.
Backup and recovery
iCloud backup starts on and can be disabled. Pattern and recovery phrase are separate access paths; the developer does not offer an email reset.
Check before you choose
iCloud backup, analytics and crash diagnostics start enabled. Media optimization is also on by default; check the Original setting.
Free download does not mean all features are free. Public US listings and developer documentation checked 1 November 2026; no native device, checkout or restore tests performed. Store offers can change.
Local setup is different from backup and purchase
Private Photo Vault documents on-device use without an account, while its optional Cloud Vault uses an account and a separate password. Encamera and Vaultaire also document local use without an identity signup, with optional Apple cloud services.
An App Store purchase belongs to an Apple Account. The fact that an app does not collect your email for local setup does not remove that store relationship. Likewise, an app account, an Apple Account and a separate cloud-vault password are not interchangeable recovery methods.
Understand the recovery trade-off before skipping signup
Some vaults provide a recovery phrase instead of an email-reset route. Keep that phrase as carefully as the main credential. The developer may be unable to restore access if every working key path is lost.
Private Photo Vault’s optional recovery email concerns the app or album password; its Cloud Vault password is separate. Encamera explains that a key phrase still needs the encrypted images to exist. A recovery credential cannot recreate photo files that were never backed up.
Check the account-free workflow you actually need
Can you create a local vault without entering an email or phone number?
Does skipping signup change export, purchase restoration or recovery?
Can optional cloud services be left off, and what is their initial setting?
Which credential unlocks the local app, and which one restores a backup?
Can you export readable files before changing devices or deleting the app?
No signup is not the same as no data collection
A developer account is only one way an app can process information. Analytics, crash reports, purchase services and platform backups are separate questions. Encamera and Vaultaire describe analytics in their privacy information; review the actual settings and policy instead of assuming that no email means no telemetry.
Choosing local use also does not prove that no files enter a separate device backup. Check iOS backup settings along with app-specific cloud settings. Our offline guide covers local originals and disconnected tasks.
When an account-based option may still fit
If you prefer a managed account recovery or cloud service, an app with signup may suit you. Keepsafe documents that model. The useful decision is which dependencies you understand and accept, not whether one label automatically makes every app more private or secure.
