Start with the shortlist or use the app finder to narrow your options. Our comparisons link to the developers’ own documentation and make unverified details clear, so you can check the trade-offs before moving your library.

Start with the requirement that matters

Different questions deserve different comparisons.

Before you move a private photo library

A lock screen is only one part of choosing a vault.

Start with a few non-sensitive files. Check what goes in, what comes back out and how you would recover access.

Read our comparison approach
Will originals and metadata survive?

Import and export a sample before moving a library. Check dimensions, dates, metadata and video quality. Test Live Photos separately: retaining a still image does not establish that the full Live Photo survives.

What happens if I lose access?

Read the app’s recovery instructions before relying on it. A passcode, recovery phrase and cloud account can do different jobs. Confirm that the files and the credentials needed to restore them are available.

Does offline use rule out cloud uploads?

No. Local access can work without a connection while backup or analytics remain enabled when connected. Our offline guide separates those questions.

Does a lifetime purchase include everything?

Check the named offer. Future updates, family use and cloud capacity can have different scope. The one-time purchase comparison explains the currently documented options.

Know what a comparison is based on

We inspect developer documentation and public App Store listings. Those sources help explain features, setup and purchase terms; they do not establish an independent security verdict.

Read the source links beside each app and check the settings that matter for your own library.

Unverified features do not become negative security scores.

A fit depends on your workflow

Local access, backup, recovery and purchase scope are separate decisions.
